Historical Information

James and Zoy Kocian purchased the building in 1999, but the history spans generations beginning when the McKnight Brothers laid the corner stone of the Rosenberg Building in 1891. The Rosenberg Brothers opened a general merchandise and farming implements store and cotton offices for their cotton business.

It was remodeled by Henry Paulus in 1921. Later businesses included the Strauss-Timm Hardware Store, I.Lauterstein's Department Store and Gindler's Department Store.

The east side of the building was occupied by a drug store, notably City Drug Store in the early 1900's. Dr. Paul Renger's office was in the rear of the building until 1921. Rubin's Men's Shop, Wall's Dress Shop, Ben Franklin Store and Gindler's Department Store were other occupants over the years.

The most recent remodeling was completed in 2001 by the Kocians.
